VCU Libraries Advisory Committee

Membership

•     One representative from each School or College, with two representatives from the School of Medicine, selected by the School or College.

•     One representative from the undergraduate student body, selected by the President of the Monroe Park Campus Student Government Association.

•     One representative from the graduate and professional student body, selected by the Graduate Student Association.

•     One representative from the professional student body of the MCV Campus, selected by the MCV Student Government Association.

•     The President of the Faculty Senate or his/her designee from the Senate, ex-officio voting.

•     The Chair of the Humanities and Sciences Library Advisory Committee or his/her designee from the Committee, ex-officio voting.

•     University Librarian, VCU Libraries, ex-officio non-voting.

Charge

The VCU Libraries Advisory Committee advocates the central role of the VCU Libraries in the academic enterprise and the University's obligation to support fully that role.  The Committee advises the Provost and the University Librarian, VCU Libraries, in areas related to library policy, planning, and operations:

•     On the formulation of library policy in relation to allocating and prioritizing internal and external resources for instruction and research; 

•     On the allocation of library space;

•     On the establishment of library hours;

•     On the development of an overall library program advancing research and instruction for the institution as a whole. 

The Committee Chair may interact with members of other University committees to coordinate activities and investigate initiatives to improve undergraduate, graduate, and professional education at Virginia Commonwealth University through collaborative work with the VCU Libraries.
