Conversation with library space planning consultants - handout

Mr. McKelvey invited those present to introduce themselves.  Mr. Ulmschneider then introduced the guests from BCWH, Lucker & Tappe, and VCU Facilities.  He explained that because the subject of the new addition to Cabell Library is high on the agenda of the University, it was decided that an indepth study of the overall library space needs of the University on both campuses would be an essential planning step.  The VCU Libraries, working with Facilities Planning, retained the services of BCWH, a consulting firm familiar with VCU, and Lucker & Tappe, experts in library planning, to carry out a comprehensive study of library space at VCU, taking into account enrollment, academic programs as they exist now, projected growth in academic programs, and projected growth in collections.  As part of that study, the VLAC members were asked to use this meeting to talk with the consultants and give their input to the study.

The VCU Libraries staff left the meeting at 2:15 to allow for unconstrained discussion between the VLAC and consultants.

The next meeting of VLAC will be January 15, 2010.
