NIH Public Access Policy: March 7 Webcast on Institutional Compliance

VCU Libraries will host a webcast on Friday, Mar. 7 from 1-2 pm on the institutional issues involved with compliance with the new NIH Public Access Policy. This webcast will explore the legal aspects of author rights management within the context of the new policy that will be effective April 7, 2008. The policy will have many benefits for research institutions, including better documentation of publications resulting from funded research. However, institutions confront a key set of issues raised by the need to ensure that authors maintain the legal rights required to allow compliance with the new policy.

The intended audience for this webcast is vice presidents of research, administrators and staff in funded research and grants offices, campus compliance officers, and others who will be responsible for fulfilling their organizations' compliance obligations as NIH grantees. The webcast is sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries and the National Association of State University and Land-Grant Colleges. Cabell First Floor Group Study Room Under Renovation

Coming Soon: New Technology Resources for Collaborative Work

Beginning the week of March 3, the large group study room on the first floor of Cabell Library will be closed temporarily for renovations. VCU Libraries is adding technology resources to this space to support students with the development of presentations and other collaborative work. The goal of the renovations project is to provide students the ability to both practice and record presentations. When the renovations are completed, the room will contain the following:

  • a motorized screen and projector
  • a podium with a microphone and touch panel control system
  • wall-mounted camera and speakers

For those seeking alternative locations for group study, additional study rooms are available on the third floor. The Linden Group Study Zone on the second floor is also available for group study.

We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to improve the Libraries' collaborative work spaces.
