VCU Libraries has received the following alert from Thomson Reuters. Please read the alert if you use the Micromedex database.
Micromedex, a business of Thomson Reuters, has discovered a situation in which misleading dosing information may be printed from the dosing calculators in the Healthcare Series and Point of Care applications. This applies to versions on both the Internet and Intranet (CD) delivery platforms.
This issue may arise in the following manner:
- The user enters patient weight and/or dosing parameters, such as the IV concentration, into a dosing calculator.
- The dosing recommendations that are returned are correct and can be printed for use at the point of care.
- If the user decides to enter a new patient or dosing characteristic into the available text fields but does NOT click the Resubmit button or the Enter key (hard return), it is still possible to print a result page with the new patient or dosing characteristics in the header, but the previous results continue to be displayed in the body of the document. Note: the correct dosing information will be generated upon selecting the Resubmit or Enter key.
This functionality will soon be enhanced on our Online System to prevent a potentially misleading display of the dosing result soon. It will be fixed with the Intranet Volume 141, expected to ship in June 2009.
Please take the necessary steps to ensure this important alert is made available to all users of Thomson Reuters Micromedex solutions at your facility, especially those involved in pediatric care.
