The VCU Office of International Education has announced that it is no longer able to sustain support for the International Newsroom initiative. As a result, the installation in Cabell Library will close the week of March 9, 2009. Installations in the School of Mass Communications, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the World Studies Media Center are also closing.
Student use of the Newsrooms has declined as Internet access to media outlets has increased. Dr. Peter Kirkpatrick led the pioneering effort to create the International Newsrooms in collaboration with a variety of campus partners. This initiative will endure as an important step in the history of bringing the world to VCU.
