RSS Feeds, Feed Readers and How to Keep Up

Since establishing the VCU Libraries Nursing Blog last week, I have received several questions about how to subscribe to it in order to keep up with updates.  As a result of these questions, I thought I would explain what an RSS Feed is , give some direction on how to subscribe to one with a feed reader, and suggest some potential feeds that you may find useful. 

 

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feed:  This is a technology that gives one the ability to keep up with their favorite websites without bookmarking them and manually going to them.  When you subscribe to a feed for a website you will receive the update to whatever RSS feed reader you subscribe to. 

You can tell if your favorite website has an RSS feed if you see some of the following symbols:

RSS Reader or RSS Feed Reader:  The best way to keep track of your favorite RSS feeds is to subscribe to a RSS feed reader.  This is a program that allows you bring together all of your favorite RSS feeds so that you have a single access point to keep up with your favorite sites.  Some useful readers that you could use are:
