psptubez_dot_com_040.pngWell September has arrived and fall is approaching.  As the semester kicks into high gear, the library is also quite busy and there are several events coming up that may be of interest.   If you have any questions or need anything when it comes to the research you are doing or in completing assignments please do not hesitate to call on me as I am here to help.   Now on to what is going on at the library, as well as some other items that may be of interest.

Trial Period for Some New Databases

VCU Libraries has some databases that we have on trial basis so that users can use them and give the library feedback as the library strives to better serve the information needs of  our users.  The databases we have of interest to the health sciences are below.  The library and users have temporary access to these databases and would appreciate any feedback you may have about them.  To try these searchable resources and offer feedback to VCU Libraries.

Exhibit- The Henkel Physicians: A Family's Life in Letters :  September 6 - October 15

Tompkins-McCaw Library is hosting the traveling exhibit, "The Henkel Physicians: A Family's Life in Letters." This National Library of Medicine exhibit offers a glimpse into the daily lives of men of medicine in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley during the 19th century. While it documents the working lives of physicians, it also illuminates social and home life and how one family experienced the Civil War. Covering more than a century of life in the Shenandoah Valley during which four members of the remarkable Henkel family practiced in the same area, this exhibition features a selection of writings that vividly illustrate the writers personality and their experiences as physicians. The letters cover local events, professional jealousies, the national crisis of the Civil war and finish with the dramatic testimony of the Henkel physicians in a murder trial.
