Next Meeting: January 17th, 2013 @ noon in 1st Floor Conference Room
Programming will be the theme of the December 6th meeting.  Shannon Jones, Associate Director for Research & Education, will be attending to see what kind of programming you might be interested at the VCU Libraries.  Some questions to think about prior to our meeting:
  1. What type of programming would you like to see offered at TML? i.e. Workshops, Panel Discussions, Invited Speakers, etc?
  2. What are some topics of programming you think would engage the various members of MCV?  Do you know of any speakers who could speak on this topic (from the VCU community and beyond)?
  3. What programming have you attended at VCU you thought to be successful?
  4. What programming was offered in your previous libraries?  What did you attend?
Please take some time to think about these questions prior to the meeting and come prepared to discuss.

Thank you - Emily
Meeting Time and Location:  12 to 1 PM, First Floor Conference Room, TML

Tompkins-McCaw Library is inviting you to our annual Thanksgiving Feast.  This is an opportunity for you to get to know and interact with the staff of TML.  This meeting will have a different structure then the previous meetings.  There will be no formal questions to answer for this session.  I will update you on the many changes happening at TML at the next meeting.

The lunch will be a traditional Thanksgiving meal with many vegetarian options as well.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Next Meeting Thursday, December 6th - 12 to 1 PM - First Floor Conference Room, TML
1.  Welcome
2.  Follow-Up from previous meeting
  • Facebook - Please join if you want to receive updates for TMLGAC through your Facebook Feed.
  • Thank you card - Please Sign the Thank You card for Dr. Retchin for contributing funds to the second floor renovations.
3.  Guest: John Ulmschneider - University Librarian
  • Supporting Graduate Students at VCU Libraries
    1. Multiple student commented on the space improvements from the renovations in TML.
    2. A major concern for the students is access to research materials after graduation.  The subscriptions the libraries pay to access these materials are priced by the amount of users so expanding beyond the present VCU community would be too cost prohibitive for the library.
    3. Partnerships with other VCU departments where discussed to be able to afford various resources.  We have explored this option with other department and we are pursuing several options like support from the School of Pharmacy for additional access to Access Pharmacy.
  • ARL Status
    1. The VCU Libraries are attempting to achieve Association of Research Libraries status.  Several documents were show to compare us to peer institutions and areas for the VCU Libraries to improve, increasing our possible acceptance.
  • Q & A
    1. Safety over on the Monroe Park Campus was brought up.  This was brought up as a concern for Cabell being open 24/5 and spaces for late night study.   Students are reminded of the RamSafe Service and to not walk alone.
