Spider Bite Program at the Community Health Education Center on May 1

The Community Health Education Center is hosting a program on spider bites on Tuesday, May 1 at noon.  Evelyn Waring RN, Education Coordinator at the Virginia Poison Center will be presenting.

Spiders are everywhere in our natural environment and sometimes are found in our homes.  Come to learn about the two poisonous spiders in Virginia: where they're most often found, how to recognize them, and what problems can be caused by their bite.

Light refreshments will be provided.  Space is limited and registration is required.  For more information or to register, please contact Sarah or Dana at 828-2432 or email seamick@vcu.edu.

The Community Health Education Center (CHEC) is located on the ground floor of the VCU Medical Center Gateway Building, 1200 East Marshall Street.

Importing Into RefWorks from PubMed Has Become Easier

pubmed.jpg
There has been a change to PubMed that should now make it a bit easier to import citations into RefWorks or any other citation management software.   The change that has been made is one that should cut down on the number of steps it takes to import citations.  There is now an option in the Send To Menu that allows you to create a file to import directly into a citation management program.  I have included the steps below and please contact the library if you have any questions as we are here to help.

Steps to Import Using Citation Manager Option in PubMed

1)       Be sure you are logged into your RefWorks account

2)       Conduct your search in PubMed and select the citations you want to import

3)       Locate the Send To Button (Upper Right Corner)

4)       Select Citation Manage and Click Create File\

5)       Save the File to Your Computer

6)       Go To RefWorks , Click on References, and  Select Import

7)       Set Import Filter to NLM PubMed and make sure Database is PubMed

8)       Go To Select File Box and Click on Browse Button

9)       Locate Your File

10)    Designate Place/Folder for the Citations (Optional)

ยท         If you do nothing it will appear in the last imported folder

11)    Click on Import and You Should See an Indication in RefWorks that the citation has uploaded

World Health Day 2012 - "Good Health Adds Life to Years"

Each year, April 7 is designated "World Health Day" by the World Health Organization.  This Saturday, World Health Day 2012 will celebrate Ageing and Health with the slogan "Good Health Adds Life to Years."

"[This] campaign activities and materials will focus on how good health throughout life can help older men and women lead full and productive lives and be a resource for their families and communities.  Over the past century life expectancy has increased dramatically and the world will soon have more older people than children. Populations are ageing everywhere, but less-developed countries are witnessing the fastest change. This social transformation represents both challenges and opportunities. In particular, countries may only have a single generation to prepare their health and social systems for an ageing world."   -- World Health Organization

The campaign also aims to challenge stereotypes with posters featuring older people in positive, healthy situations.  Visit the World Health Day 2012 website to download posters, view photos, and find links to articles and additional information on ageing and health.
