TML Library Liaisons: Meet Alan T. Williams

AlanTW.JPGHello VCUers (if that's a real word)!!! My name is Alan T. Williams and I am one of the Education Services Librarians at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, VCU Libraries. I have worked for VCU Libraries in one capacity or another going on 10 years. I am the liaison librarian for the VCU School of Nursing (I love you guys!) and several schools within the VCU School of Allied Health Professions (Go OT!).

My main research interests are open source, free programs that can be used in instruction. I have recently completed a project on the top free screencasting software and I am now looking into free bibliographic software. I am also very intrigued by mobile technologies and how they can be used for instruction.

I am here to teach library instruction for classes as well as one on one appointments to help students gain a better understanding of the valuable resources we have at VCU Libraries. Please feel free to e-mail me (s2atwill@vcu.edu) or call me (804.828.1592) if I can be of assistance. Thank you.

TML Library Liaisons: Meet Emily Mazure

emily-p01.jpgHello from the newbie!
As the newest member on the Tompkins-McCaw Library staff I am learning new things about the library, VCU, and the MCV Campus every day. I come to VCU after having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Central Michigan University (President Rao is following me, or I'm following him) in 2005. In 2007, I received my Masters of Science in Information from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and then moved to North Carolina State University for my first job as a Libraries Fellow. At NCSU, I worked at the William Rand Kenan, Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine and the Natural Resources Library where my work focused on instruction.

As the Education and Research Librarian, I am available to assist one-on-one, with small groups, or entire classes to impart the knowledge and skills necessary to meet a variety of literature searching needs. In particular, I am a liaison to the VCU School of Medicine's Basic Sciences Department and the School of Allied Health Professions.

I am dedicated to making the library, its resources and information as accessible and user-friendly as possible. I strive to teach transferable skills, relevant across databases, questions and circumstances. Whether you need to answer a specific question or learn how to navigate the library's website I am happy to help.
