We the People of the United States,
in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice,
insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,
promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty
to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this
Constitution for the United States of America.
This month, Virginia Commonwealth University
joins campuses across the nation in commemorating the September
17th 1787 signing of the Constitution. VCU’s series
of events and programming is designed to promote greater awareness
of this extraordinary document and to foster reflection upon
its principles, which continue to influence our daily lives
more than two hundred years after its ratification.
