Friends of the Library may use computer resources within either library under our Walk-In Access policy or may request a Friends of the Library eID.

Walk-In Access:

Non-VCU individuals may request one hour of computer access at our guest computer stations by showing a current photo ID issued by a college or university, an ID issued by a high school, or a VCU Friends of the Library card to the Circulation and Information Services staff. A password to log in to one of the guest machines will be issued. Access is limited to one 60-minute session per day. At times when all guest machines are in use, you may be offered the next hour if it is available. Note that failure to be present and logged in within 10 minutes of a scheduled reservation causes the system to remove your reservation and allow the next patron’s access to the machine to be activated. Guests must be on-site to request access.

Friends eID:

Friends eID's are valid for use within James Branch Cabell Library or the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences. Donor privileges are not transferable, and your Friends eID is for your personal use only. Friends eID are issued through the VCU Libraries Development Office in conjunction with VCU's Human Resources Division.  After making your donation, you may contact Antonia FD Vassar at (804) 827-1165 to initiate the eID process.  You will be asked for additional information in order to receive an eID.  It takes approximately two weeks after the receipt of your donation until your donor privileges and eID are available for use.

Friends of the Library donors agree to acquaint themselves with and abide by the regulations of the VCU Libraries, and are responsible for any overdue fines and lost material costs on their account.

Donations may be made with a personal check or credit card. The VCU Libraries cannot accept a corporate check or credit card as payment for an individual's Friends of the Library contribution. Friends of the Library donor privileges are a privilege and not a right of donation, and may be revoked at any time. The VCU Libraries and the Friends of the Library Board may elect not to accept a donation of any individual or organization at any time. Donations made to the VCU Libraries are tax deductible as allowed by law. Friends of the Library donors will receive a thank you letter and borrower's card from the VCU Libraries Development Office via the USPS once the donation is processed and privileges are available for use.
