Giving at VCU Libraries Ways to Give

Cash Gifts:

  • Cash gifts may be made online or by contacting the VCU Libraries Development Office at (804) 827-1163 or 827-1165. Cash gifts may be paid outright or you may establish a pledge payment schedule.  Please contact Kimberly Separ or Antonia FD Vassar at (804) 827-1163 or 827-1165 to discuss making your pledge of support to the VCU Libraries.

  • Full-time faculty and staff of Virginia Commonwealth University may participate in payroll deduction for gifts made to the VCU Libraries.

Estate and Planned Giving:

  • For many donors, a gift made through their will is the best way to make a substantial contribution to the VCU Libraries. Donors may leave a specific dollar amount or a percentage of their estate. Through a bequest, a donor can make a gift without depleting current assets and take advantage of reduced federal estate taxes. Donors who make a bequests to the VCU Libraries are recognized as members of the VCU Heritage Society. To learn more about bequests, please contact Kimberly Separ or Antonia FD Vassar at (804) 827-1163 or 827-1165.

  • Additional information about making a bequest to benefit the VCU Libraries is available on the VCU Foundation's Web site.

Gifts of Stocks:

  • The stock market makes gifts of securities a desirable means of giving to the VCU Libraries. If you are interested in transferring stock, the VCU Foundation will work directly with you or your broker.

  • Please contact Kimberly Separ at (804) 827-1163 for additional information or visit the VCU Foundation's Web site.

Gifts in Kind - Books & Materials:

  • Your donated books and materials can make a real difference for VCU and the VCU Libraries. Most donated materials go directly to our annual Book Sale.  The Book Sale is staffed by dedicated Friends of the Library volunteers, and generates income to buy new library materials and to support Friends-sponsored programs and events.
  • Sometimes donated materials are appropriate for the VCU Libraries' collections, and they are added to the general collection or, in some cases, to Special Collections and Archives.  However, we can’t guarantee that donated items will become part of the permanent collection.
  • All materials donated to the VCU Libraries become the property of Virginia Commonwealth University and cannot be returned to the donor.

  • For questions about book donations, see our Book Donations Frequently Asked Questions.  For more information on book donations, please contact Sarah Amick or Antonia FD Vassar at (804) 828-4640 or 827-1165.

Bookplates:

  • Bookplates recognize individuals who are important in our personal, cultural, and civic life. Just as these individuals continue to influence and inform us, library books placed on our shelves are a never-ending presence in our intellectual, spiritual, and personal life. It is a great privilege and honor to have such enduring recognition as part of the collections of the VCU Libraries. Bookplates are an especially nice gift to honor the graduating VCU student or retiring faculty member.

  • The VCU Libraries offers two bookplates featuring the facade of either James Branch Cabell Library on the Monroe Park Campus or Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences on the MCV Campus. Bookplates are $50 each. Acknowledgment of bookplate gifts are sent to the honoree following placement in the books.

  • You may order your bookplate online or contact Antonia FD Vassar at (804) 827-1165 to place your order.
