A: The term "blog" is short for "web log." A blog is an online journal that is updated frequently with posts that can include information about events, opinions, news, etc. Blogs also usually permit readers to respond by adding comments to the posts.

A: The Blog is a collaborative effort shared by VCU Libraries staff members who write the posts, but anyone from the VCU community may contribute comments.

Q: What if I want to add a comment?
A: The Libraries welcomes and encourages the VCU community's participation in the Blog! VCU faculty, staff, and students may add comments to any review. Posts should be relevant, and they should thoughtfully discuss the reviewed work. For example, rather than simply stating that you like or do not like a book, offer a meaningful reason for your opinions. Comments should be respectful to other readers, and comments may be rejected or edited for clarity at the Libraries' discretion. For further details, please contact John Glover, Reference Librarian for the Humanities, Cabell Library at jglover2@vcu.edu for assistance.

Q: I've heard of something called RSS. What does RSS have to do with blogs?
A: Every blog automatically generates a code that is meant for computers to read called RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication. By subscribing to the feed through an aggregator such as Bloglines, you can easily see when something new is added to the blog.
