International Newsroom

 International Newsroom

Located on the first floor, southeast corner of the James Branch Cabell Library, the International Newsroom is open during library building hours.

International Newsroom The International Newsroom features 12 television monitors with access to over 60 television channels around the world. Users will have the option of choosing among the channels, which can be piped in to any of the monitors. The audience will include international students, students in World Studies, students studying international politics and those interested in the culture of other countries, and students in Mass Communications interested in comparative journalism, among others.

Credit for the vision for the International Newsroom belongs to Dr. Peter Kirkpatrick, Executive Director, Office of International Education. Dr. Kirkpatrick recognized the value of distributing international news channels via satellite throughout the campus and approached first Academic Technology and then the VCU Libraries to discuss solutions.

Funding for this project has been provided by VCU Academic Technology, VCU International Education, VCU Libraries, and the Higher Education Equipment Trust Fund (HEETF).

VCU Your Key to the world Media Support Services staff designed a system to achieve this vision, adding to the existing Closed Circuit Television System currently in place around the University. The Cabell Library satellite teleport has a new satellite dish, with additional receiving equipment located in the campus head-end on the B level. VCU Libraries staff worked with Dr. Kirkpatrick to allocate, design and renovate appropriate space and develop promotional materials.
