African-American
African-American organizations and individuals have made and continue to make huge contributions to this region’s 20th- and 21st-century history. VCU Libraries collects, preserves and makes accessible the papers of these organizations and individuals to enable future researchers to tell this story. The records of city councilwoman Willie Dell, the Astoria Beneficial Club, the Richmond Crusade for Voters and the Phyllis Wheatley Branch of the local YWCA chapter are just a few of the collections created by, and pertaining to, African-Americans that are currently housed at VCU Libraries.
We invite other organizations and individuals to contact us and add to this archive for the benefit of students of 20th- and 21st-century African-American and Virginia history.
