The mission of VCU Libraries Preservation Department is to maintain and protect all collections in all formats. The Preservation Department promotes this mission with these activities:
- Selection for preservation
- Physical treatments
- Environmental monitoring
- Education in the care and handling of library materials
- Disaster preparedness and response
Established in 1984, the Preservation Department oversees the care, treatment and shelving of the collections on the Academic and Medical College of Virginia campuses. The Preservation staff is located on the second floor of the James Branch Cabell Library on the Monroe Park campus.
