Scheduling your class

Course-related library research instruction is available throughout the year at Cabell Library in the third floor library instruction lab. You are encouraged to schedule a time for your class to come in for library instruction via the VCU Libraries Instruction Reservation Request Form.

Classes are taught by librarians and customized to meet the special research needs of your classes, undergraduate or graduate. Library instruction at Cabell Library introduces students to specific research methods which foster independence and critical thinking. It also provides an overview of the concepts and logic of information access and prepares students to make immediate and lifelong use of information in an effective way. Sessions can be tailored to focus on areas such as:

  1. Demonstrations or hands-on instruction on electronic databases, including ABI-Inform, ERIC, FirstSearch, LEXIS/NEXIS, Psychological Abstracts, InfoTrac, Government Documents databases, and others. Instruction on remote access for home searching of these resources is offered when applicable.
  2. Sessions designed to introduce Internet resources related to a particular discipline or class research project so that students can connect, search, and find needed information.
