Faculty can place electronic or physical materials on reserve to ensure all students in the class have equal access to the assigned material. 

Integrate the Library into Your Class

Workshops, Tours and Instruction

Cabell Library provides learning opportunities year round to help faculty, staff and students hone skills in information management. At the beginning of each semester, we offer walk-in tours and quick orientations of the building on the Monroe Park Campus. During the year, we offer some open workshops. Our calendar of workshops and library events

Customized Teaching and Instruction

Bring an information expert into your classroom to teach about information and research. Librarians will provide course-related research instruction for both undergraduate and graduate classes. Librarians will design specialized classes for you, in a library classroom, in your classroom or online. Use the online Instruction Request Form or contact your Library Liaison at least two weeks' in advance to set up a session.

Research methods education fosters creativity, independence and critical thinking. Sessions can focus on many areas, including these. 

  • Learning exercises that address general information fluency skills that will enable to students to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.
  • Demonstrations or hands-on instruction on research tools, including VCU Libraries Search, general databases and subject databases.
  • Introductions to research tools in all disciplines and formats.
  • Online research guides specific to your classes or programs. 
  • Online consultations for individuals or groups for web-based classes. 

Integrate the Library into Your Research Process

Librarians offer personalized consultation services to support the research needs of faculty, students and staff. We can work with you to:

  • Develop curricula and learning exercises for your class that strengthen the information fluency skills of your students.
  • Integrate the library and library resources into your classes.
  • Find manage, and evaluate information for your own research projects, and that of your students.
  • Encourage your students to talk to a librarian before they start a research assignment.
  • Find a librarian assigned to your subject matter. Request a consultation.
