Undergraduate Nursing Resource Guide
VCU Libraries has a variety of resources to support nursing education. Most are housed in the Tompkins-McCaw Library. The resources highlighted below will help you begin your library research. To see additional libraries resources visit the Research area of the VCU Libraries web site.

The VCU Libraries Catalog allows you to search by title, author, keyword and subject. Possible medical subject headings include: nurse administrators, nurse clinicians, nurse practitioners, nursing, nursing assessment, nursing care, nursing process, nursing research, and nursing theory.

- NetLibrary has over 190 books related to nursing including Advanced Nursing Skills: Principles and Practice, Philosophical and Theoretical Perspectives for Advanced Nursing Practice, The Care of Wounds: A Guide for Nurses, A Caring Approach in Nursing Administration and Fundamentals of Nursing Research, Paediatrics: A Clinical Guide for Nurse Practitioners.

- Health Sciences Databases is a subject listing of the databases available for VCU faculty, students and staff.
- CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is an index of journal articles and other selected publications from 1982 to the present. For a tutorial see An Interactive Tutorial of CINAHL prepared by the University of Florida Heal Science Center Libraries
- PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to 15 million MEDLINE citations back to the 1950s and additional life science journals. For search tips use PubMed Basics.
- MEDLINEplus is a consumer health information service from the NIH including a medical dictionary, encyclopedia and drug information.
- To find a journal article for which you have a citation:
- While you are in a database or electronic resource, click on this button
. You will be connected to online resources and the VCU Library Catalog from this link or; - Use the Online Journal Search to determine if the VCU Libraries has electronic access to the journal or;
- Use the Library Catalog to see if the journal is available. Visit the library to obtain materials that are only available in print. The Virtual Tour will help you navigate the Tompkins-McCaw Library.
