1993: VCU Libraries Marks Acquisition of Millionth Volume
On April 22, 1993, VCU Libraries celebrated the acquisition of its millionth volume. Tompkins-McCaw Library added the 999,999th volume to the VCU Libraries' collection when it acquired Macilwain's Medicine and Surgery published in 1838, the founding year of the university.

1997: Centennial of Library Service on the MCV Campus Celebrated
During the 1997-98 academic year, the library held a series of events to commemorate 100 years of library service on the MCV campus. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to mark the beginning of a second century of service.
