About This Exhibit
Overview
2007 is a banner year for the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences and for Virginia Commonwealth University's MCV Campus. Virginia's largest health sciences library honors the 75th anniversary of its current home perched at the edge of Shockoe Hill, and the 110th anniversary of continuous library service on the MCV Campus.
The exhibit 75 Years on 12th Street which opened in March of 2007 tells the story of the past years at Tompkins-McCaw Library and illustrates the rapid pace of change and growth in library collections, services, and technology since the building's opening in September of 1932. Using the leather bound and gold-stamped volumes from the Classics of Medicine Library of facsimile editions, library staff has constructed a physical bar graph to chart the expansion of the library's holdings.
Photos for the exhibit were assembled from material in Special Collections & Archives, the MCV Campus annual (The X-Ray), and other college and university publications.
Viewing the Exhibit
The exhibit is located on the first floor of Tompkins-McCaw Library (maps and directions) on the MCV Campus of VCU, across from the Current Periodicals section (see floor plans). The exhibit is available for viewing during normal library hours.
