Special Collections & Archives serves as Tompkins-McCaw Library's home for rare and valuable materials related to the history of health sciences in Virginia. The non-current records of the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University are found in Special Collections & Archives. These collections of primary research materials are open for use by the faculty, staff and students of Virginia Commonwealth University as well as the general public. Materials from the collections do not circulate but are available for use in the Special Collections & Archives Reading Room located on the first floor of the Tompkins-McCaw Library. Descriptions of the materials housed in Special Collections & Archives are available in the library. Regular hours for Special Collections & Archives are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Appointments are recommended.
The staff is available to answer questions related to the history of health sciences and the use of primary source materials. Information on the history of the Medical College of Virginia is found in Special Collections & Archives at Tompkins-McCaw Library. Photocopying and photoduplication services are available.
