The Alliance of Nursing Organizations and Specialty Groups of Virginia

The Alliance of Nursing Organizations and Specialty Groups of Virginia (The Alliance) was established in 1985. For several years, under the aegis of the Virginia Nurses Association, a number of organizations and specialty groups had met together annually to discuss common interests and share information. A three-member steering committee comprised of Patricia Cushnie from the Virginia Organization of Nurse Executives, Marcia Dake, from the Virginia Association of Colleges of Nursing and Dorsye Russell from the VNA, was appointed to draft rules for a continuing alliance. These rules were adopted on October 18, 1985 and Marcia Dake was elected as the first chairman of The Alliance. The purposes of the organization were (1) to provide a mechanism for communication, consultation, and collaboration among nursing organizations in Virginia and (2) to further the common interests of member organizations. The organization was disbanded in the early 21st century.
