Old Dominion Graduate Nurses Association
Carrie M. Sharp, former President of the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses, called a meeting on April 11, 1916 to organize the State Association of Colored Graduate Nurses. The Association met annually, often in conjunction with the Old Dominion Medical Association. In 1936 the name of the Association was changed to the Old Dominion Graduate Nurses Association. The Association disbanded in 1953 after both the American Nurses' Association and the Graduate Nurses Association of Virginia had opened its membership to African-Amercian registered nurses.
