About the VLN
The Virginia League for Nursing began in 1918 as the Virginia State League of Nursing Education. The organization was formed from the Institutional Section of the Graduate Nurses Association of Virginia (GNAV). This group disbanded after five years. In 1937 the Education Section of the GNAV voted to become the Virginia League of Nursing Education and a year later it became a constituent of the National League of Nursing Education. When the National League for Nursing Education changed its name to the National League for Nursing in 1952, the Virginia constituent followed along and became the Virginia League of Nursing. The mission of the VLN is to support all nursing education programs and to sponsor educational programs to assist nursing faculties and students.
