Description

This day of drop-in workshops for graduate students and advanced researchers features topics such as making more effective data visualizations, finding your voice in scholarly conversations, locating possible collaborators and finding inspiration to make your research process better, faster and smarter.

The event is free and open to all, but please register if you plan to join us for lunch. Parking is available for a fee in the West Broad StreetWest Main Street and West Cary Street parking decks. If special accommodations are needed, or to register offline, please call Gregory Kimbrell, membership and events coordinator, at (804) 828-0593 prior to Oct. 10.

9:30 a.m. Scholarly Conversations: Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

Discuss and share how to incorporate the ideas, concepts and work of others into your own writing correctly. Viewing your work as part of a larger scholarly conversation will help you avoid plagiarism.
10:30 a.m. The Scholar Network
Julie Arendt and John Glover
This session will address how to build a reputation as a researcher, find other like-minded researchers and seek collaborators through new tools like Twitter, Academia.edu, Google Scholar, ORCID and others. Learn how to make your work more visible online and find your people.
11:30 a.m. Lunch with Your Librarian
It's our treat. Join us for lunch and informal conversations with your librarian. Please register for lunch.
12 p.m. Your "Aha!" Moment
Carla-Mae Crookendale
Learn about library resources that will help you think creatively and convert your research into new ideas.
1 p.m. From Graph to Graphic
Martha Roseberry and Ken Hopson
Explore tools, tips and best practices to create data visualizations for a paper, poster or presentation.
