VCU Libraries and the VCU School of Medicine Office of Falculty Affairs are partnering to bring two new lunchtime learning opportunities on cultivating an online scholarly presence. Please register for one or both events so that we can order lunches.

Cultivating an Online Scholarly Presence

Objectives:

  • Identify best practices for creating scholarly profiles online
  • Examine different scholarly profile services and understand the benefits and drawbacks of each
  • Discuss best practices for sharing published scholarship and data online

This workshop will review some of the systems and tools you can use to manage your online presence and make suggestions for keeping it accurate and up to date.

Medical Scholarship and Publishing

Objectives:

  • Identify "standard" publishing agreements (books and journals) and the rights you can lose in those unread contracts
  • Learn strategies to negotiate better terms with publishing agreements
  • See problems in cloud, social media and "click-through" contracts
