First-Generation College Students at VCU Share Words of Encouragement

In recognition of National First-Gen Celebration Day on November 8, eighty-eight posters of VCU students who will be the first in their family to graduate from a four-year institution will be displayed in an exhibit on the first floor of the James Branch Cabell Library, located on the Monroe Park Campus at 901 Park Avenue.

In this You First at VCU event, each poster features a first-generation student and their words of encouragement to the VCU community. Viewers will have the opportunity to write their messages on an adjacent motivational board. Come visit this interactive exhibit through the beginning of 2022.

This poster exhibit is part of You First at VCU and TRIO Student Support Services’ week-long festivities. Visit for a full list of events and for additional ways to celebrate VCU’s first-generation college students, who make up nearly one-third of the population.
