Explore Makerspace, Special Collections and more at Health Sciences Library Weeks of Welcome Open House Aug. 27

July 9, 2024

On Tuesday, Aug. 27 The Health Sciences Library invites all new and returning students and new faculty to visit and explore the library’s private study and collaborative spaces at 509 N. 12th St. Learn about library resources and services available in the building and electronically from anywhere you’re working or studying. Stop at the table in the foyer and meet the staff and librarians assigned to your health sciences schools and programs. Tours are available upon request or take a self-guided tour. The Open House takes place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Other highlights:

  • The only such high-tech creative space on the MCV Campus, The Makerspace offers 3D printers, a laser cutter, a Cricut paper and vinyl cutter–all free to use for VCU students, faculty and staff. Beginners are welcome; no experience is necessary to use the Makerspace. The library staff offers orientations for each piece of equipment and will coach new users. Visit The Makerspace during the Open House to learn more and get ideas for your next creative project!
  • Special Collections and Archives at VCU houses one of the most significant collections of medical artifacts and rare medical texts in the South. During the OpenHouse, learn more about collections and step into the history of VCU with an interactive timeline game! Place events in order from the university's founding to the opening of new schools and buildings and look back on VCU’s origins. See some of the medical artifacts on display in the building.
