As Director of Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, Knott serves as VCU Libraries’ leader on the MCV Campus. She works to forge and continuously strengthen relationships with academic leaders and researchers in the schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, along with the College of Health Professions and with clinical care leadership from VCU Health to ensure that library resources and librarian expertise constantly evolve and improve to meet the needs of education, clinical care and research best practices.
During her tenure, Tompkins-McCaw has dramatically expanded services and staffing and improved study spaces in response to the growing needs of students and practitioners on the health sciences campus.
She holds the master’s in library science from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s in public administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico. Before joining the VCU faculty in 2009, she served as Deputy Director, Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland and was Associate Director and Faculty Associate at Delia-Montes Gallo Library of the Health Sciences, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. At Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, she also served as a reference librarian.
Distinguished among health sciences librarians, Knott is an active contributor in professional circles. In 2016-17, she served as president of the Medical Library Association, which represents more than 3,000 health sciences information professional members and partners around the world. And, for 2017-18, she served as a mentor in the Leadership Fellows Program, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries. Other honors include:
