After a career in print journalism, Sue Robinson moved into academia, first at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond. There, she managed The Jepson Leadership Forum lecture series and communications. She was instrumental in varied roles in establishing the Connect Network, an online resource for nonprofit management.
She came to VCU in 2011 to set up a professional communications and public relations office for VCU Libraries, which now manages some 300 events each year and oversees brand standards and strategic communications planning and creation of print and digital materials to advance VCU Libraries’ mission. The office, working in close collaboration with librarians, has created a number of award-winning materials.
Robinson holds a master’s degree from the University of Richmond and a bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College. She holds certifications in nonprofit marketing and development and fundraising from the Institute of Philanthropy, University of Richmond. She is also a graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond.
Her work included a stint overseeing state politics as Capitol News Bureau Chief, Richmond for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot and Roanoke Times. She also served as Editor and Managing Editor at the alternative city paper STYLE Weekly and worked in daily newspapering in Richmond, Bristol and North Carolina.
She has written hundreds of articles for publication and now contributes to the library literature in collaborative articles on communications and outreach topics. Recent work includes:
