Tammy Sugarman joined VCU Libraries' leadership staff in fall 2018. She oversees the selection, acquisition and description of library materials in all formats that support the research needs of faculty and students, and ensures these materials are made accessible and available in a timely way. Her responsibilities also include oversight of the libraries’ budgets.
From 2009-2018, she served as Associate Dean of the Georgia State University Libraries where she led the functional areas of collections, acquisitions/e-resources and cataloging. Prior to that, she was a subject librarian for history and art and instruction coordinator.
Sugarman's research interests include data-driven assessment and evaluation of library collections.
She holds an M.S. in Information from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, the M.A. in history from The Citadel, Charleston, S.C., and a B.A in history from Boston University.
