Emergency online access to books

Many organizations are increasing online access to books and other materials due to the closure of library spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Find most titles through HathiTrust

Almost half of VCU Libraries’ print books are available through HathiTrust’s Emergency Temporary Access Service.

Log in to HathiTrust, select Virginia Commonwealth University as the partner institution, then log in with your eID.

Download is limited to one page at a time. Like our print books, only one VCU member can check an item out at a time.

More sources for online books

Internet Archive National Emergency Library

The National Emergency Library is a collection of over 1.4 million books donated from libraries to readers worldwide who are locked out of their libraries during the COVID-19 crisis.

JSTOR is offering online access through June 30 to more than 35,000 books, in addition to the JSTOR Archive and Primary Source collections. VCU Libraries has opted into this expanded access through our existing JSTOR subscription. A list of participating publishers is updated as additional publishers join.

More ways to read online

Other publishers and presses have enabled free online access to books during the COVID-19 pandemic, and VCU Libraries provides access to many e-book collections every day.
