Cabell Library Lactation Rooms

Cabell Library offers two lactation rooms. These spaces are quiet, relaxing and private for those who need to pump or feed a baby. One room is on the lower level, the other on the fourth floor.

Each room offers:

  • Medela Symphony pump
  • Comfortable seating with a small table
  • Low lights and privacy
  • Sink and mirror
  • Refrigerator

Available during library hours, these rooms are free to use and accessible via VCUCard access. Students, faculty and staff at VCU can go to the Information Desk in the Cabell Library lobby to request access, or contact Teresa Doherty, Assistant Head for Information Services, at (804) 828-8658 or mtdohert@vcu.edu. Once registered, a person can reserve the room online. Both fourth floor and lower level lactation rooms are available anytime Cabell Library is open.

The rooms are also available to visitors to campus. Those who would like immediate or temporary access to the spaces may request use at the Information Desk. Staff will escort a user to one of the lactation spaces. Arranging a meeting or conference on campus? Cabell staff can assist you and your attendees who need access.

Spacious and accessible universal bathrooms on the third floor and lower level of Cabell Library offer changing tables. There are no changing tables in the lactation rooms.

The purpose of the rooms is to provide a comfortable, private space for parents to pump milk, or to nurse/feed their babies. However, babies may be fed anywhere in Cabell Library based on the parents’ or caretakers’ preferences.
