32nd Annual Brown-Lyons Lecture: Jews and Booze: Becoming American in the Age of Prohibition by Marni Davis

Description

Marni Davis, Ph.D., associate professor of history at Georgia State University, presents her book Jews and Booze: Becoming American in the Age of Prohibition. The book discusses the involvement of Jews in the trafficking of alcohol during Prohibition and how this involvement inflamed anti-Semitism and brought to the surface tensions within the Jewish community over Jewish identity and the interest in full integration into American culture. A book sale, signing and reception follow the talk.

The event is free and open to all, but please register. Parking is available for a fee in the West Broad Street, West Main Street and West Cary Street parking decks. If special accommodations are needed, or to register offline, please contact the VCU Libraries Events Office at (804) 828-0593.
