VCU Libraries offers three free online sessions, "National Center for Biotechnology Information Databases for Beginners," June 23-25, noon to 1 p.m. each day.

In a trio of webinars, STEM librarians  and  will give a brief overview of bioinformatics databases and demonstrate when and how to use these resources.

  • June 23, Gene, Nucleotide, BLAST, noon to 1 p.m. Explore NCBI’s collection of gene records and nucleotide sequences and find regions of similarity between biological sequences.
  • June 24 Protein, Structure, noon to 1 p.m. Learn about NCBI’s Protein records and how they relate to the Structure database.
  • June 25 ClinVar, dbSNP, dbVar, noon to 1 p.m. Look at NCBI’s variation databases, particularly those that address single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), genomic structural variations and how certain genomic variations relate to human health.
