VCU Libraries to host NIH Library “Introduction to Clinical Genomics” workshop

March 3, 2016

Throughout the year, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Library offers bioinformatics short courses that provide training on the effective use and practical applications of bioinformatics resources.

VCU Libraries will host "Introduction to Clinical Genomics" on March 17, 1:30 to 4 p.m. The  two hour and 30 minute workshop will cover how to access information about genes and their variants associated with disease. The impact of variant on drug response and dosing guidelines will also be described. This workshop will provide an introduction to determination of the impact of the variants on function, pathogenicity or deleteriousness.

The workshop will be taught in Sanger Hall B1-020 using distance technology. Instruction is led by Medha Bhagwat, Ph.D. Bahgwat has diverse expertise in biochemistry. She earned her doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Maryland. Her postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the NIH focused on the structure-function studies of bacteriophage T4 RNase H and its interaction with other proteins at the replication fork. She has more than 10 years of bioinformatics experience at the National Center for Biotechnology Institute. Additional speaker information

Registration is required and the workshop is open to the public. Non-VCU affiliates should contact Thelma Mack mackta@vcu.edu for registration assistance.
