"Silent Witness" Returns to Cabell Library

October 9, 2017

"Silent Witness," a traveling memorial for Virginians killed as a result of domestic violence, returns to Cabell Library, Oct. 5–12, 2017, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Located at the top of the grand staircase in the lobby, the memorial is staffed by students from Crime and Delinquency Prevention, a service-learning course taught by Wilder School Assistant Professor Amy Cook, Ph.D.

The memorial is a partnership of the Wilder School with VCU Libraries and the VCU Wellness Resource Center and its special initiative Sexual Assault and Violence Education by Students (SAVES), a student group dedicated to supporting other students affected by intimate partner and sexual violence, through peer education, training and advocacy.

"Silent Witness" features life-size wooden silhouettes, each representing a victim and bearing a shield with the details of the victim's story.

Materials were provided by the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance. For more information, contact Amy Cook at cookak@vcu.edu.
