Study sessions designed to appeal to key groups

VCU Libraries is committed to helping every student succeed. Sometimes, that success hinges on getting help and support from friends. Connections and camaraderie can help a student feel welcome and gain confidence. 

To that end, James Branch Cabell Library, in partnership with other departments, schedules open study hours for particular student groups. In most cases, the partner organizations provide professional advisors or trained student tutors to staff the room to coach and encourage students or answer questions. 

  • You First Study Hours
    James Branch Cabell Library Multipurpose Room (Room 250)
    Mondays and Tuesdays 4-9 p.m.

    Drop-in study hours for self-identified first-generation students, who are the first in their families to plan to graduate from college.


  • TRiO Study Hours
    James Branch Cabell Library Multipurpose Room (Room 250)
    Mondays 1-4 p.m.

         TRiO, a federally funded program, supports undergraduate students by providing guidance, tools and resources that lead to academic success for first-generation, low-income and students with disabilities.

  • Men of Color Study Hours
    James Branch Cabell Library Multipurpose Room (Room 250)
    Sundays 4-10 p.m. and Fridays 1-5 p.m. 

         The Men of Color Initiative supports Black male and Latino students and aims to improve undergraduate Black male and Latino student success.

  • Transfer Center Study Hours
    James Branch Cabell Library Multipurpose Room (Room 250)
    Tuesdays 1-3 p.m.

    Drop-in study hours for students who are new to VCU via transfer from other universities or community colleges.

Hours for drop-in study sessions can change; check the digital screen in the lobby for the “Today in Cabell” schedule.
