GradFest 2023
Aug. 15, noon-2 p.m. 
James Branch Cabell Library Lecture Hall 

Grad Fest is an overview of resources and services for graduate students. Drop in anytime between noon and 2 p.m. to learn about campus life and opportunities and explore resources for your research. Network with other grad students. Talk to representatives from the Graduate School, VCU Libraries, Graduate Student Association, Career Services, National Scholarship Office and more. Start your semester with an informative tour of Cabell Library. From study rooms to books, to The Workshop, Cabell has what you need to jumpstart your academic journey and personal projects. Meet Your Librarian

Did you know that you have a subject librarian who can show you exactly how to go about research for your classes? Stop by Cabell Library to meet the subject librarians who work directly with the schools, departments and majors you're enrolled in. Librarians are also assigned to undeclared and Honors College students. Learn what your librarian can do for you and how to set up an appointment with them to get the most relevant resources for your projects. Health Science Library Open House

Health Sciences Library 

The Health Sciences Library invites all new and returning students to visit and explore the library. Learn about resources and services, including Special Collections and Archives, and explore equipment and expertise in The Makerspace. Stop by tables on the first floor to meet the staff, including liaison librarians, learn about services and grab VCU Libraries giveaways. Building tours available upon request.

Special Collections and Archives Open House
Aug. 23, 1-3 p.m.
Special Collections and Archives on the fourth floor of James Branch Cabell Library 

See unique and interesting items from the collection and learn more about what we offer. There will be rare books, pop-ups, comic books, zines and so much more to explore. Special Collections and Archives holds several hundred thousand items dating from the 16th century to the present, with formats ranging from miniature books to maps to artist’s books. Drop in any time during the open house. All students are welcome — there are no major or year restrictions. All questions can be directed to libjbcsca@vcu.edu. RSVP here.

Student Success Collection Pop-Up Library

Student Success Librarian Teresa Doherty will host a table featuring a selection of books from the Student Success Collection. Come browse and checkout books that will help you be successful at college. Book topics include time management, study tips, fitness and health, dealing with roommates, how to read academic articles, and much more. Just bring your VCUCard -- it's your library card, too. Intro to The Workshop

Meet the staff of The Workshop, Cabell Library’s  creative technologies space, who will share information about the media equipment, studios, hands-on maker technologies and expert support that they offer to help you share your ideas with the world. Learn about cameras, audio recorders, 3D printers, virtual reality headsets, motion capture, design software and more. Open to all students. Leisure Reading with a Librarian

Did you know that you can access more than just academic materials at the library? We have books from fiction to poetry and romance to fantasy. Center Your Gravity with Coloring and Word Search

Slow down and unwind with us as you color. See if you can find all the library related words in our custom word search puzzle. You can use our crayons or bring your favorite art supplies. Learn about the resources, services and expertise available at Cabell Library, with a focus on the arts. Art librarians will guide you through finding: Visual and performing arts books and magazines; unique collections like Comic Arts and Book Art in Special Collections and Archives; tools and spaces for producing creative work in The Workshop, the library’s maker space and more.
