New strategic framework sets the course for future priorities and focus

March 17, 2015

The new values statement for the VCU Libraries preserves the best elements of the values statement first developed by the VCU Libraries in 2003 but updates it to reflect the vastly different institution that is the VCU Libraries in 2015. The Management Council group responsible for updating the values statement developed four different draft approaches that expressed a range of vocabulary and formatting options. Working together, Administrative Council and Management Council members merged these four drafts to create a single values statement that retains the best elements of the four drafts.

The strategic framework statement takes two forms. First, a single-page summary condenses the themes and initiatives of the complete framework document into a concise, easily read statement that clearly communicates the strategic directions of the VCU Libraries to the university community and other external audiences. Second,  the full framework document links themes and initiatives to the Quest for Distinction plan and the University initiatives. It provides much greater detail on how the VCU Libraries will invest its resources to implement the strategic framework themes in coming years.

The new mission, strategic framework, and values statements have been placed on the VCU Libraries public website.
