Researchers can take many actions to increase the openness and reproducibility of their work.

VCU Libraries will host two, free workshops by the Center for Open Science to teach easy, practical steps to increase the reliability of their projects. The sessions Tuesday, Feb. 7, are

  • 9 a.m.-noon at James Branch Cabell Library, Room 321
  • 1-4 p.m. at Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, Room 2-006

Seating is limited. Please sign up.

The workshop will be hands-on. Using example studies, attendees will actively participate in creating a reproducible project from start to finish.

The presenter will be Courtney Soderberg, the statistical and methodological consultant at the Center for Open Science. She heads training programs for reproducible research methods. She holds a Ph.D. in experimental social psychology with a minor in quantitative psychology from University of California-Davis.

This session is aimed at graduate students and postdocs, across disciplines, who are engaged in quantitative research. The workshop does not require any specialized knowledge of programming. Participants will gain a foundation for incorporating transparent practices into their current workflows. Topics will include:

  • Project documentation
  • Version control
  • Pre-Analysis plans
  • Open source tools like the Center for Open Science’s Open Science Framework

The Charlottesville, Va.-based Center for Open Science is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the alignment between scientific values and practices.
