Book Art Collection showcased in March 22 CURRENTS art fair event
March 6, 2018
James Branch Cabell Library is participating in a community, inaugural CURRENT Art Fair that focuses on art books with a March 22 open house and show-and-tell about the library's significant Book Art Collection.
This is only one exciting book art event coming to Cabell this spring. Book art followers should also save the date for April 20 when internationally known artist and VCU alumna Colette Fu presents a workshop for fellow artists and a public lecture about pop-up book engineering.
March 22, librarians and artist book experts Yuki Hibben and Andrea Kohashi will share highlights from VCU Libraries' Book Art Collection. Viewers will see a wide array of books from seminal artists' books of the 20th century to finely crafted editions with unusual bindings, structures and materials. The collection includes more than 4,000 items and encompasses all aspects of contemporary artists' publications.
The event is free and open to all, but registration is required. Details and sign up for the March 22, 6 t 7:30 p.m. event
The related CURRENT Art Fair is bringing independent makers of art-related publications to participate in CURRENT Books 2018, a special CURRENT Art Fair event featuring artists’ book makers, zine makers, and small independent publishers of artist monographs and other book-based art objects. The inaugural event will see the return of CURRENT to its original neighborhood in Scott’s Addition, and will be held March 31, 2018 at Studio Two Three. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase books directly from artists and publishers from Maryland, Washington, Virginia, and North Carolina that produced them.
