Megan Hodge to head new Teaching and Learning DepartmentOctober 25, 2019
Megan Hodge has been appointed Head, Teaching and Learning, a newly created department in James Branch Cabell’s Research and Learning division.
This appointment, effective Oct. 25, is part of the reorganization of Teaching, Learning, and Information, which became two departments: Teaching and Learning and Information Services and Learning Spaces. These departmental changes, designed for more efficient and user-friendly operations, also became effective Oct. 25.
Hodge’s appointment has been made following overwhelming positive feedback and support of library stakeholders who will work closely with her in her new role. She has extensive knowledge of effective methods for designing, delivering and assessing teaching activities that will advance research skills and information literacy in foundational and/or non-discipline specific coursework on the Monroe Park Campus. Her experiences managing active and collaborative learning spaces, participating in outreach events and designing traditional and online instructional initiatives equip her effectively for this position.
Megan’s contributions since joining VCU Libraries in 2013 as Teaching and Learning Librarian and then as the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning have had significant positive impact on VCU Libraries’ success as an organization.
“Megan has made so many positive contributions at VCU Libraries in the past six years,” said her supervisor, Associate University Librarian Laura W. Gariepy. “I am especially excited to see our students benefit from her advocacy of inclusion and accessibility in a learning context at the libraries.”
In her current role, as VCU Libraries' liaison to the English Language Program, Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, and National Scholarship Office, Hodge has provided course-integrated instruction and research assistance to VCU's international students, national scholarship applicants and first- and second-year students.
Active in the profession at the national level, she is a Councilor-at-Large for the American Library Association (ALA). She was honored as a 2011 ALA Emerging Leader and in 2014-2015 served as president of the ALA New Members Round Table.
Hodge is a doctoral student in educational with a concentration in research, assessment and evaluation at VCU. She holds the M.S. in library science from the University of North Texas and the B.A. in English literature from Randolph College.
