New open access publishing funding pays VCU author fees for Springer and American Chemical Society journals

January 17, 2024

VIVA (Virginia’s academic library consortium) now covers open access article processing charges for Virginia researchers who publish in hybrid open access Springer journals and all American Chemical Society (ACS) journals. VCU authors can view eligible journals and full author guidelines on the open access support page.

For both Springer and American Chemical Society (ACS) journals, articles must be accepted for publication on or after Jan. 1, 2024 to be eligible for coverage. All VCU authors are eligible, including faculty of any rank or type (tenure-track, term or adjunct) and graduate students. A VCU author must be listed as the corresponding author of the article to qualify for coverage.

Authors interested in publishing with Springer are invited to attend a VIVA webinar on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. The webinar will provide an overview of the article submission process from the author perspective, and Marc Struss, editorial director at Springer Nature, will discuss open access publishing. To attend, please contact Hillary Miller at hmiller5@vcu.edu for the webinar link.

VCU Libraries and VIVA have agreements with some additional publishers that provide VCU authors with full coverage for open access publishing fees. VCU authors can make their journal articles open access, immediately upon publication, through the opportunities listed on the open access support page.

Publishing in an open access journal ensures that research is immediately and freely available online to read, download and share. Authors keep the copyright to their  articles while publishing their work under a Creative Commons license that promotes wider sharing and use.

Authors who need assistance may contact Hillary Miller at hmiller5@vcu.edu
