Abbey Childs

As the OER Librarian, Childs collaborates with colleagues in the VCU Libraries and across the university to increase student success by advancing the adoption of open and affordable course content and growing the Open and Affordable Course Content (OACC) initiative. In this role, Childs provides education and outreach on OERs and course material affordability and supports VCU faculty in creating, customizing, disseminating, identifying, adopting and assessing open and affordable course content. Childs also promotes VCU faculty participation in VIVA statewide opportunities for funding and support for the adoption and creation of open and affordable course materials.  

Childs brings public service and textbook affordability expertise from her previous position as Student Supervisor and Course Reserves Coordinator at William & Mary Libraries and from her previous position as the Library Services Manager at VCU Health Sciences Library.

She has been active in key committees at VCU Libraries, such as the Web User Experience Working Group, the Inclusion and Diversity Committee, and the Staff Organization Implementation Work Group. At William and Mary, she served on the Staff Assembly for five years, including one year as secretary.
