To make an appointment, request materials, or ask a question, please contact the library you plan to visit.

Accessing and using materials

To access materials onsite, researchers and visitors complete a brief registration form that provides information about collections and reading room use. Guidelines are designed to provide an environment that is welcoming and comfortable for researchers, yet safe and secure for rare and unique collections. Please note that collections are non-circulating and can be used only in the Special Collections and Archives reading rooms.

Research guides

Research Guides contain useful information for researching Special Collections and Archives.

Reproductions

Researchers may reproduce images of materials using cell-phones or cameras provided no flash is used. A self-service digital scanning station is also available.

Requests to use or publish any material are subject to copyright as defined by copyright law. Unless materials are in the public domain or being used under Fair Use, researchers must obtain the permission of the copyright holder and/or Special Collections and Archives for use or publication. Since other legal restrictions may apply, for example privacy, staff are available to consult regarding restrictions and copyright concerns and make every attempt to facilitate use. Researchers should acknowledge VCU Libraries, Special Collections and Archives, as source and owner of cited, loaned or used materials.
