University Archives

University Archives is a unit within Special Collections and Archives. It serves as the official repository for university records of enduring administrative, fiscal, legal and historical value. To support the teaching, learning, research, community service and administrative needs of VCU, the University Archives develops, manages and makes accessible these unique and valuable resources. The goal of this department is to ensure the preservation of historically significant records and other materials that document the University's origins and activities as well as the achievements of its faculty, students, staff, alumni and supporters.

The University Archives includes textual and electronic records, publications, photographs, audiovisual materials and objects dating from the founding of the Medical Department of Hampden-Sydney College in 1838 to the present. Historical records from VCU’s predecessor institutions, the Medical College of Virginia, the University College of Medicine and the Richmond Professional Institute, are also included.
